The Sycamore Commission | What is Jesus Ministry?

What is "Jesus Ministry?"

Jesus said that He came 'to seek and save what was lost' (Luke 19:10). The word 'save' here is translated from the Greek word 'sozo', meaning restoration, healing and making whole.

In the Gospels' account of Jesus' own ministry on earth, this word is used to describe spiritual salvation, physical healing and also deliverance from the influence of the Enemy. Jesus came to restore every way in which Satan has stolen and  destroyed God's original design and purpose for our lives.

In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus describes His own ministry as including preaching Good News to the poor, proclaiming freedom to the captives, sight to the blind, release for the oppressed and to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour.

In John 14:12, Jesus tells us that ANYONE who has faith in Him will do what He did and even greater things. As the Father sent Him into the world, so He sends us (John 17:18).  Therefore our mission, as His Church, is to continue the ministry that He had on earth and to bring restoration in the same ways that He did. The Sycamore Commission works to equip the Church for this mission.
